Why You Absolutely Must Visit Mayfield Gardens Near Oberon
About ten minutes from Oberon in the NSW Central Tablelands, Mayfield Gardens are one of the largest privately owned cool climate gardens in the world.
The 65 hectare (more than 160 acres) garden complex comprises the public gardens and the private gardens of the Hawkins family who began the project in 1984. The public gardens are open several times each season and the public section is open 363 days a year.
The Mayfield Garden includes fountains, ponds, a grotto with a cascading waterfall, water gardens, an arbour, lawns, walkways, rockeries and stone bridges. In between are hectares of trees, mid-size bushes and ground cover plants, all forming a spectacular layered display no matter what the season.
There is also a café, nursery, kitchen garden, gallery and function centre.
