Italy has more than its share of tourist hot spots – but you know you’re not in one of them when you’re surrounded by Italian-speaking holiday makers.

That’s what it’s still like in Puglia, the coastal region depicted on the map as the heel of the Italian boot. It’s vibrant, beautiful and crammed with history but it’s still relatively unknown to foreigners.
